What happened in Manipur?

A video of the incident recently surfaced online and sparked massive public outrage on social media. Ethnic violence has begun in the state in the past two months. It all began on May 3 in Chulachanpur town after a group of Kuqi people called a protest against a proposal to grant prospective tribal status to the Meitai community in the state.

Celebrities involved in the Manipur incident

Jaya Bachchan has now expressed her grief in response to what happened during the violence in May. She told the media, “I couldn’t watch the whole video because I felt so sick. It was embarrassing. This incident happened in May and now it’s gone viral. But no one has said a single word of sympathy. This is about women’s safety. And you say things like you chose 50 percent women for your panel. Khanti ke dart hai (this is like an elephant’s tooth).”

She also said, “It’s very frustrating. Every day something happens among women. In the UP you can’t know what’s going on there, but Yogi Adityanat Gee never says. What’s happening to women across the country? It’s very humiliating. It’s very sad.” Other actors such as Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Kiara Advani, Shilpa Shetty and Anupam Kher have also accused the incident.
