Singer Yo Yo Honey Singh is having a busy year with a new Netflix documentary and album titled Honey 3.0. The singer and composer has also returned to Bollywood with songs created for the films Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 (2022) and Her Selfiee (2023). However, when Honey was asked about the controversy over his song’s lyrics, he explained that the perceived misogyny was unintentional. Why is he still invited to the wedding? The popular singer-rapper took a break in 2015 for physical and mental health and has slowly returned to music over the past few years. An upcoming Netflix documentary will likely address his withdrawal from the music scene, with the film being produced by Oscar-winner Guneet Monga of his Sikhya Entertainment. Speaking to Pink Villa in an interview, Honey explained: If so, why would people listen? If my song contained misogyny, who would invite me to play at her daughter’s wedding? I’ve done so many weddings in the last 15 years. The aunts will appear on stage and dance with me to the lyrics “Aunty police bula legi”. No such thing. “
The singer also referenced the song Mujhko Rana Ji Maaf Karna, a song composed by Rajesh Roshan and written by Indeevar for Karan Arjun (1995). He pointed out that people didn’t have a problem with the allusions in the song back then. “People are getting more sensitive, they are reading more books. They are getting more sensitive. They are taking it the wrong way. There is a difference between being objective and being a good reader, today we call someone who has read many books an intellectual. [or Master of Philosophy], yes, this is an intellectual. People were smarter and broader than before. They took entertainment for the sake of entertainment. “
Honey 3.0 is the singer-songwriter’s third big album after International Villager and Desi Kalakaar. Naagan is set to be the first song released from her new album.
