Anurag Kashyap’s next film, Kennedy, was selected for the late-night screening category at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Cannes Film Festival’s official Twitter handle has announced that Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy has been selected for the Midnight Screening section of the festival. “Kennedy by Anurag KASHYAP #SéanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023,” the post read. Kennedy stars Sunny Leone, Rahul Bhatt and Abhilash Tapryal. Details of the film are being kept secret.

This is not Anurag’s first film to show its presence at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival. The filmmaker screened his now-iconic feature film Gangs of Wasseypool at his 2012 Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, an independent division of the Cannes Film Festival. In 2013, Ugly screened at the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight section and received a standing ovation. Following that, Raman Raghav 2.0 also premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section of his 2016 Cannes Film Festival. Even his Bombay Talkies, an anthology film with Anurag Kashyap as one of his directors, premiered in the special screening section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival.

In reaction to the news, filmmaker Sudhir Mishra tweeted: Film director Arathi Kadav tweeted, “So much happiness to @anuragkashyap72 on home ground with Scorsese, Kore-eda and Wes Anderson. So happy and so proud. Lots of love and joy.” . Anurag’s last film was his DJ Mohabbat’s ‘Almost Pyaar’ starring Alaya F and Karan Mehta. A romantic musical to be released on February 3rd.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival will screen new films by Martin Scorsese, Wim Wenders, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Todd Haynes and Hirokazu Kore-eda. Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostrund, who won the Palme d’Or for last year’s Triangle of Sorrows, will serve as the main jury member for his competition. Maiwen’s period drama Jeanne du Barry, starring Johnny Depp as Louis XV, will open the festival.
