In a career spanning over 20 years, Karan Johar has established himself as one of the most celebrated directors in Bollywood history. When it comes to love stories, Karan is arguably one of Bollywood’s most sought-after directors. His stories, though surreal at times, capture our hearts again and again.
In an exclusive interview with Filmfare a few years ago, the ace filmmaker discussed the key ingredients to directing a romance. Below is an excerpt from the interview. “The most important thing is to get couple energy right. Awkwardness often appears on-screen when the main character couple become too infatuated with each other.My favorite is when two people who don’t know each other very well get together. It’s a dream, even if I don’t have love in my life, cinema will be an alternative medium for me to express the love I have for someone because to me it’s so unrewarding. Every time I project it, it works.”
