Years after cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya’s Koffee With Karan episode went viral on social media, KL Rahul’s father-in-law Suniel Shetty recently commented on the controversy. The actor said Hardik may have been “hooked”, but celebrity chat show anchor Karan Johar kept pushing him. They get excited and say something,’ he said. Some of the comments made by cricketers were deemed “sexist” after the Koffee With Karan episode during the show’s sixth season hosted by Karan Johar in 2019. Despite the apology they were suspended by the BCCI and banned from the ODI series for three games against Australia.The duo were later fined ¥200,000 rupees each by BCCI. Filmmaker Karan Johar at the time also said he felt “very responsible” for the impact cricketers had to face.
“You know when the interview between him (KL Rahul) and Hardik (Pandya) came… Hardik probably went crazy. But what do you do when an anchor (Karan Johar) is stuck in your throat?” So when it’s a show format (Koffee With Karan) and kids say something excited, Bollywood gets banned.
The actor further stated: I feel inferior to everyone else. When that happens, that’s when things go wrong and they never should. ”
A video of Suniel talking about Koffee hosted by Karan and Karan Johar was recently shared on Reddit by Bolly Blinds N Gossip, and many seemed to agree with his take. One wrote: He takes responsibility for what they say. Another comment read, “KL He was in the wrong place at the wrong time Rahul didn’t deserve the backlash. Hardik was inappropriate and Karan was making fun of him.” It is written
