IMDb Trivia also states that Anil Sharma offered Govinda the film, but changed his mind after the failure of Maharaja and changed the cast of Gadar.

The director referred to these rumors while speaking to Siddharth Khanan in 2017, stating: people talk. In fact, I was working with Govinda on The Maharajah. When I was a Maharajah, I told him the story of Gadar. Perhaps he misunderstood that I wanted him in the movie, and that’s where the rumors started. ”

The manager denied being close to Neelam, but neither denied nor confirmed any links between Kajol and Gadar. However, he clarified: Neelam was definitely not one of them. They all had some kind of problem. Some people didn’t like this story. Others didn’t like us. Some had their own personal goals. Some people didn’t want to do period dramas. ”
